Prevention for the whole family – a healthy smile starts with timely care
A healthy smile doesn't start when a problem occurs. It starts much earlier – with proper daily care, regular check-ups, and professional prophylaxis.
В Дентална клиника “InoVita” вярваме, че превенцията е една от най-важните стъпки към запазването на здрави зъби и венци през целия живот. А добрите навици, изградени още в детството, са най-добрата инвестиция в бъдещото орално здраве.
Why is professional cleaning important for seniors?
Even with thorough daily brushing, there are areas that are difficult to clean completely at home. Over time, the accumulated plaque can mineralize and turn into tartar, which cannot be removed with a regular toothbrush.
The accumulation of plaque and tartar can lead to gum inflammation, bleeding, bad breath, and, if left untreated, to diseases of the tissues that support the teeth.
Therefore, for many adult patients, professional cleaning is recommended approximately every 6 months, with the exact interval determined individually by the dentist according to the condition of the teeth and gums, oral hygiene, and individual risk.
During a preventive visit, tartar and plaque can be removed, gum health can be assessed, and early changes can be noticed before they become a more serious problem.
Prevention starts in childhood
Caring for a child's smile doesn't end with baby teeth. A particularly important period occurs around the age of 6, when the first permanent teeth begin to erupt.
The first permanent molars often appear behind the baby teeth, without any prior loss of teeth. For this reason, they sometimes go unnoticed by their parents. At the same time, they must serve the child throughout his life and deserve special attention from the moment they erupt.
Regular preventive examinations allow the pediatric dentist to monitor the eruption and development of permanent teeth, the quality of cleaning, the bite, and the risk of developing cavities.
This is also a good time for the child to gradually build independent and correct oral hygiene habits, with parents continuing to supervise and support cleaning according to their age.
What is silanization?
One of the options for preventing caries in children is silanization of permanent teeth.
The chewing surface of molars has natural grooves and grooves called fissures. Some of these can easily trap food and plaque, and brushing isn't always effective enough.
During silanization, these deeper areas are covered with a thin protective material – a sealant, which creates a smoother surface and reduces the possibility of plaque retention and caries development in the fissures.
The procedure is quick, non-invasive, and usually painless. It is most often discussed soon after the eruption of the permanent molars, when the dentist determines that the specific tooth and the risk of caries warrant it. The condition of the sealants is monitored at subsequent preventive visits.
It is important to know that silanization does not replace brushing your teeth, using fluoride toothpaste, and regular check-ups. It is an additional protective measure as part of overall prevention.
A habit for the whole family
When preventive visits are a natural part of the entire family's health care, children also more easily perceive a visit to the dentist as something normal and positive.
For adults, regular preventive care helps maintain healthy teeth and gums and detect problems early. For children, it lays the foundation for good habits and allows permanent teeth to receive the necessary care from the moment they appear.
